= despite: にも拘わらず

For all her qualifications, she's still useless at the job.

　あんなに能力があるのに、彼女はその仕事には使い物にならない。

= Despite her qualifications,  she's still useless at  the  job.

cf. despite (in spite of) + still

　この場合の still は、＜まだ〜のままだ、依然として〜だ＞の時間表現の意味は無く、〜にも関わらずの意味で、despite のだめ押し的表現です。特に訳出する必要はありません。however + still などの、譲歩表現 ＋still  の組み合わせも頻用されます。

used to show that a statement is true in another  situation:　

= as far as that is concerned; as for that

　言った事がもう１つの状況にも当てはまる、ついでに言うと、それについては同じく

Ming's never been to Spain, or to any European country  for  that matter.

　ミンはスペインに行ったことはないし、ついでに言えばヨーロッパもない。

For that matter, you are no better qualified to judge  than  I.

　それに関しては、君は僕と同様審判するに不適格だ。

cf. be no better than 　と同様に（非道い）奴だ、〜と同じぐらい良くない、〜同然だ

If you say that someone is no better than a person  who  is unpleasant or  unkind, you mean that  they have behaved in a similar way to this typeof  person:

People who don't pay for a bus ticket are no better  than  common criminals.

　バスの切符代を支払わない者は、一般犯罪者も同然だ（犯罪者同様に非道い奴だ）。

He's no better than a thief.

　彼は泥棒も同然だ。

knowing about or considering a particular thing: 〜を特に考慮すれば

Given his age, he’s in excellent physical condition.

　特に歳のことを考えると、彼の身体状態は優れてる。

= Considering in particular his age, he’s in excellent  physical  condition.

≒ Taking into account of his age, he’s in excellent  physical  condition.

≒ He’s in excellent physical  condition for his age.

Given (the fact) that he's had six months to do this,  he  hasn't made much  progress.

　これをするのに半年の時間を持っていたことを考慮すると、かれはあまり進歩していない。

= Considering (If we consider) he's had six months to  do  this, he hasn't made  much  progress.

despite what has just been said:　直前に言った事にも拘わらず、そうは言うものの

He forgets most things, but having said that, he always  remembers my birthday.

　彼は物事は殆ど忘れてしまう。でもそうは言ったけど、私の誕生日はいつも覚えている。

however

　３つの用法があります。

1. despite whatever amount or degree　程度や量がどのようであっても、

　（however + 程度を示す、副詞、形容詞の形で）

However fast we drive, we’re  not going to get there  in  time.

　どんなに速く運転したにしても、我々はそこには時間通りには着けない。

If Emma likes something she’ll buy it, however much  it  costs.

　もし何かが気に入るとエマは幾ら高かろうともそれを買って仕舞う。

However hungry I am, I never seem to be able to finish  off  a whole pizza.

　どんな腹が減っていようとも、私は全然ピザを丸ごと食べ切れそうにない。

cf. finish off  食べ物を平らげる、仕事を片付ける

cf. seem to do

=  appear to do

・to appear to one's own senses, mind, observation,  judgment,  etc

　自身の感覚、観察、判断で〜自分が〜する様に見える （Ｉが主語）

I can't seem to get the  story straight.

　私には自分が話を合わせられそうには思えない。

・To appear to be true,  probable, or evident:

　（他人の目に）真実だ、あり得そうに見える

.He seems to have worked in  sales for several years.

　彼は数年は販売の仕事の経験がありそうに見える。

＊自分自身がそう見える（I が主語）、他人の目からそう見えるの２つの意味があります。

He is unlikely to succeed in getting his bill through  Congress,  however worthy  it is.

　彼は国会で自分の法案を通すのに成功しそうもない。たといそれがどんなに価値が有っても。

cf. be unlikely to do （端から見て）〜しそうにない

cf. Congress  米国及び中南米諸国の国会、議会

You have to sit the exams, however much you don't  feel  like doing them.

　どんなに受ける気が無かろうと君は試験を受けねばならない。

cf. take ( sit (for),  go in for ) an exam 試験を受ける

However much I respect him, I can't agree with him on  this  occasion.

　彼をどんなに尊敬していようとも、この件に関しては彼には同意出来ない。

I mustn't have any more chocolate, however much I  feel  like  it.

　もうこれ以上チョコレートを食べては駄目ね。どんなにそうしたいと思っても。

2. in whatever way:　どんな遣り方に〜しても、どういう風に〜しても

However you look at it, it’s  still a mess.

　君がそれを如何なる遣り方で見ようとも、それはゴミに過ぎない。

You can do it however you  like, it really doesn’t  matter.

　君はどんな遣り方でもそれを好きに遣って良い。全然問題にはならない。

3. despite this; nevertheless　（副詞用法）

これにも拘わらず　　しかしながら

＊however のこの用法は formal なやや硬い表現です。ビシネス文書、論文などでは好まれ、極めて一般的に利用されています。逆に but は意味の曖昧性を含む（対立的概念に留まらず気軽に日本語の「でも」と同じく利用する）と同時に、 contrast を表す場合でも口語過ぎるぞんざいな感じ （yet, on the other hand に置き換え可能）がしますので、第三者に示す文書などでは使わない方が良いでしょう。

There may, however, be other reasons that we don’t  know  about.

　しかしながら、我々の知らない他の理由があるのかもしれない。

＊however は文の途中に挿入することも出来ます。

This is one possible solution to the problem. However,  there  are others.
