Present  continuous  and going to - 6 Minute  Grammar  2019/08/03

BBC Learning  English  Learn English grammar with BBC  Learning  English!

In English  grammar,  we  use 'going to' to talk about something we have  decided  to

do in the  future.  We  can use the present continuous to talk  about  something

we have decided  to  do in the future, and made arrangements for.  It’s  definite,

not just an idea. https://youtu.be/-8660VeIj4U

be going to do と be doing は似た様な意味合いですが、前者が、〜するつもりだ(意志)

と証拠に基づく未来(〜だ)を併せ持つのに対し、後者は、既に定まっている計画、段取り

(〜する計画だ、予定だ、段取りだ)のみを表し、いわゆる未来予告表現には利用出来ま

せんし、思いついた意図の入る余地も有りません。

present  simple to talk about the future

 現在進行形を用いた未来表現

be doing

 未来表現

*現在進行形は一種の未来表現を取り得ます。

*既にそうすることを決定、決心しており、通常は既に計画を建てていることや(第三者を交えて)既に段取りを作っている未来を語る時に利用する表現です。

 〜する段取り、計画だ、予定だ

*be planning to do, have a plan to do に書き換えられます。

*即ち、(will)  <  (be going to)  < (be doing +未来時間表現) < (do + 未来時間表現)、の順で未来に対する確定性が高まります。〜するだろう、から、、〜するつもりだ、〜の段取りとなっている、時刻表で確定している、への推移ですね。

(ロックミュージックグループのツア−計画ついての会話)

The band is visiting Denmark next May.

 バンドは次の5月にデンマークを訪問する段取りです。

= The band is planning to visit Denmark  next  May.

I am taking the train to Paris tomorrow.

 僕は明日はパリ行きの列車に乗る予定だよ。

= I am planning to take the train to Paris tomorrow.

Are you going to Maggie’s party tonight?

あなたは今夜マギーのパーティに行く予定?

= Are you planning to go to Maggie’s party tonight?

= Do you have s plan to go to Maggie’s party tonight?

I’m going to the shops. Do you want anything?

 私はその店に行く予定だけど何か欲しいものがある?

------------------------------------

注意:

繰り返しますが、単に未来について予告  predict  する場合には  be  doing  は利用出来ません。この表現を使うには、〜する段取り、計画だ、の意味を持つ必要があります。単純な未来予告を表す場合には   be  going  to  do (近い未来を根拠に基づいて言う)或いは  will (根拠の薄い遠い未来)を利用します。

◯ You will fail the exam unless you study hard.

 一生懸命勉強しないなら君は試験に落ちるだろう。(will で根拠の低い遠い未来を示す)

◯ You’re going to fail the exam unless you  attend  more  classes.

 もっと多くの授業を受けないと君は試験に落ちるよ。(be goingto do で根拠のある近未来を示す)

× You’re failing the exam, unless you  study  hard.

この文は以下に書き換えられ

=  You're planning to fail the exam, unless  you  study  hard.

 君は試験に落ちることを計画している、となってしまい意味がおかしくなります。

◯ I think it will rain.

(根拠が無いけど)雨が降ると思う。

◯ It’s going to rain again soon.

 すぐにまた雨が降るよ。(雲がどんよりと黒いなどの根拠が有って言っている)

× It’s raining again soon.

= It's planning to rain soon.

これだと、すぐにまた雨が降る計画だ、段取りだ、となってしまい、奇妙な文となります。

------------------------------------

was doing

*過去に抱いていた計画が変更したかもしれないことを表します。

You’re not staying out in this rain, are you?

 この雨の中を外で過ごす計画じゃあないだろう?

Well I was staying out, yes.

 いや、そうする計画だったんだが。(そうする意図があったがその後気持が変わっている可能性がある)

5 ways to use  the  PRESENT CONTINUOUS verb tense in  English  2016/03/19

English with Alex ・  engVid English  Classes If you think the present continuous  is  only

used to talk  about  actions  that are happening in the present, think again. In  this  grammar

lesson, I look at five  different  ways  the present continuous (also called  present  progressive)

can be used,  including  a pre-arranged  future plan, an event that is happening  during  a

particular period,  repeated  behaviors, and temporary situations. This is a great  way  to

refresh what you  already  know  about the present continuous and to expand  on  it.
