Admitting that you aren't a native English speaker,  I'm  sorry  I don't   catch   what you'd like to express  in  the abstract of your paper.

　君がネイティブスピーカーで無い事は認めるにしても、残念ながら君が論文の抄録で何を言おうとしているのか私には理解出来ない。

= Althought I admit that you aren't a native  English  speaker,  I'm  sorry I  don't catch what you'd like to express in the  abstract  of  your  paper.

(even) supposing

= even if 仮に〜であるにしても、〜であると仮定するにしても

＊even が無い場合は、if の意味ですが、even が略されている場合もあります。その場合は適宜 even を補って解釈します。

＊以下の２文の違いを正しく判断して下さい。主節と従節が対立関係にあれば even が略されていると判定出来ますね。

Supposing this is not the right way to the station, what shall we do?

　これが駅に行く正しい道ではないとすると、俺たちはどうしたらいいのか？

= If this is not the right way to the station, what  shall  we  do?

Supposing that it were true,  nothing would  be  different.

　仮にそれが本当だとしても、何１つ変わらないだろう。（仮定法）

= Even if  it were true,  nothing would  be  different.

if, only if: 〜の条件に限り

＊この表現に関しては、even provided that の形を取る文例はほぼ見られません。

＊even provided that  〜の条件に限るにせよ、との文言が一般的では無く、堅い記述の文章にはなじまない表現である事を反映しているからなのではと思います。譲歩表現なら素直に although, though を利用すれば良さそうです。

可能性を提示する会話表現

仮に〜としよう。（その場合）・・・

　 話の上だが仮に〜としよう。（その場合）・・・

　接続詞用法

We use in case to talk about things  we  should  do  in  order  to  be prepared for possible future situations:

　この先のあり得る状況に備える為に行うべき事について話す、〜（の場合）に備えて

＊何かトラブルが起きない様に、スムーズに進められる様に、予め備えておく、との文章を構成します。まぁ、備えあれば憂い無し、との按配です。

＊主節と  in  case  節は、いずれを前或いは後ろに置いても意味は全く同じです。

＊in  case  節の動詞は主節の時点に於ける未来のことを想定しますが、主節の時制 （現在、過去）に拘わらず常に現在形を用います。

＊英国用法になりますが、感情表現（驚き、怖れ）を表す節中に should　を用いる時があります（should なしでも構いません）。これは和訳のしようがなく無視して良い存在ですが、〜すべきと訳すと誤りになります。この用法として、英国ではfor  fear  that  と  in  case,  lest  節中に should  を用いる事があります。

UK He took his umbrella in case it should rain.

　雨が降る場合に備えて（雨が降るといけないので）彼は傘を持った。

= UK/ US He took his umbrella in case it rains.

I will bring an umbrella in case it rains.

　僕は降雨に備えて傘を持って行こう。（主節が未来型 + in case 以下は現在型）

I always bring an umbrella in case it rains.

僕は降雨に備えていつも傘を持っていく。（主節が現在型 + in case 以下は現在型）

I brought  an umbrella in case it rains.

　僕は降雨に備えて傘を持っていった。（主節が過去型 + in case 以下は現在型）

×I brought  an umbrella in case it rained.

Shall I keep some chicken salad for your  brother  in  case  he’s  hungry  when he gets here? (conjunction)

　到着した時に空腹な場合に備え、君の兄弟の為にチキンサラダを取っておきましょうか？（接続詞用法）

In case I forget later, here are the keys  to  the  garage.  (conjunction)

　あとで忘れるのに備えて、ここに車庫の鍵があるよ。（接続詞用法）

She knows she’s passed the oral exam, but  she  doesn’t  want  to  say  anything  just in case. (adverb)

　彼女は自分が口頭試問に受かったことが（心の中で）分かっていますが、万一の事（試験に落ちた場合のこと）を考えて何も言いたがりません。（副詞用法）

＊in  case  を if の意味で使う事は出来ません。下記の違いにご注意下さい。

Let’s take our swimming costumes  in  case  there’s  a  pool  at  the hotel.

　ホテルにプールがある場合に備えて水着を持って行こう。（ホテルにプールがあるかどうか知らないまま出掛ける）

Let’s take our swimming costumes  if  there’s  a  pool  in  the  hotel.

　もしそのホテルにプールがあるなら水着を持って行こう。（ホテルにプールがあるかを行く前に調べ、プールがあるなら持って行く）

＊if は＜〜であるとの条件なら〜だ＞ですので、調べてみてプールがあると分かったら水着を持って行く、プールが無かったら持って行かない、との話になります。

　判定に誤りが起きた場合には、グループリーダーが責任を負う。

　規定はグループリーダーに責任を持たせる

＊a group leader とは字義通りの集団のまとめ役のことであり、組織内の階級に限定されるものでは有りません。統率するメンバーの人数にも拠りますが班長と言ったところかと思います。

　（腕の中に）何かを取り入れ抱える、〜の状態にさせおく

＊動詞 keep などと同様に SVOC の文型も取ります

＊この意味表現では動詞　keep の動作性を強めた表現と考えても良いでしょう。

　以下の表現の違いにご注目下さい：

Could you hold the door open, please?

　ドアを手に取って開けたままにして戴けますか？

Could you keep the door open, please?

　ドアを開けたままにして戴けますか？

hoping that something may be possible, although it is not likely:

　望み薄だが可能性はあると望んで、万一にもと思い

I applied for the job on the off chance that they might like me, but I didn't seriously expect to get it.

used to admit that something is true,  before  saying  something  else  about  it:

　他のことを述べる前に何かが（相手の主張が）真実であるとまず認める、仮に〜であるにしても、その通り、だが、〜と（言い分を）認めるにしても

＊仮定の意を含んだ一種の譲歩表現になります。

Granted that the story's true, there's not  a  lot  you can do about it.

　仮にその話が真実であるにしても、それについて君が出来る事はあまりない。

= Even if the story's true, there's not a  lot  you can  do  about  it.

Granted [Granting] that what you say is  true,  it's  no excuse.

　仮に君の言うことが本当だとしても, それは言い訳にはならない.

= Even if what you say is true, it's no  excuse.

Granting it to be true [Granted that it is true,  Granting that it is true],  you   are  still  in the wrong.

　たとえそれが本当にしても、やはり君の方が間違っている.

Granting that he was drunk,―Granted that  he was drunk,―that is no  excuse   for  his  behaviour.

　彼が酔っていたにしても、そう言ったところで彼の振る舞いの言い訳には全然ならない。

Granted, many horror films don't make  sense  until  the  ending,  but  they  at least provide a few scares along the way.

　その通りでホラー映画は結末まで（見ないと）意味を為さないが、しかしそれらは少なくともストーリーに沿って恐怖を幾らか与える。

　（主節の現在形表現は普遍的真実を主張する表現です。〜と言うものだ）

That is one reason why they have been  so  amazingly  popular,  granted  that  they  are not particularly easy reading.

The couple was having a loud argument, and I  was  afraid  to  get involved.

difficult to understand or deal with; complicated:　理解する、扱うのが困難な、複雑な

His story was so involved that I couldn’t  follow  it.

(INTERESTED)

interested in something you are doing:　遣っていることに没頭する。

Maria was so involved in her work that she didn’t  hear  me  come  in.

　マリアは仕事に大変没頭していたので私が入室したのが聞こえなかった。

(EMOTIONAL)

being in a close relationship with someone:　誰かと感情的に近い関係になる

emotionally/romantically involved

Try not to become too emotionally involved with  the  children  in your care.

　あなたの世話の内にある子供とは余り感情的に入れ込むことにならぬ様努めて下さい。

→世話をする子供に対しては感情的にあまり入れ込まぬ様にして下さい。

≒You should deal with the child in your care  objectibely.

Given good health （Given that one  is in  good  health),   one can achieve  anything.

= If one is in good health, he can achieve  anything.

�A If you say given that something is the  case,  you  mean  taking that fact into account.

Usually, I am sensible with money, as I  have  to  be,  given  that I  don't earn that much.

　あまり稼げていないことが分かっているので、僕はそうであるべき様に大抵お金のことに敏感さ。

=  Knowing that I don't earn that  much,  I  am  usually  sensible  with  money as I have to be.

= Because I know I don't earn that  much,  I  am  usually  sensible  with money as I have to be.

＊日本語の一般的な感覚では、＜〜を考慮に入れて＋〜をする、している（動作の文）＞の組み合わせですが、given が　状態を表す動詞 knowing の意味も持つと知れば、＜〜が分かっている＋〜である（状態の文）＞が自然に成立することが理解出来ます。この場合  given  that  =  knowing that = because  I  　know   の意味合いと考えて良いように思います。

＊given that は if 的な意味合いを持ちますが、軽い意味の if 即ち＜〜なら〜だ＞の意味であり、0-conditional 或いは 1st-conditional に留まり、仮定法とは別のものです。

accepting as true without question  or  proof:

　疑問や証拠無しに真実として受け入れる、〜だと仮定すると、〜だとすれば

My plans include you, she said, assuming  I  could  discover  a  way  to  interest you.

＊native speaker でも混用しやすい assume と　presume ですが、assume が根拠が無いのに推定する、に対し、presume は根拠があって推定する、の大きな違いになります。

to accept something to be true without  question  or  proof:

質問することや証拠無く何かを受け入れる、〜ではと思う、〜と思い込む、〜と（根拠が無いが）推定する、仮定する、当然と思う、〜と決めて掛かる

= take for granted  当たり前と思う

I assumed (that) you knew each other  because  you  went  to the  same  school.

　同じ学校に通ったんだから君たちは互いに知っていたと僕は思ったんだ。

Let's assume (that) they're coming and make  plans  on  that  basis.

　彼らが遣って来てそれを元に計画を建てると思う事にしよう（考えることにしよう）。

= 彼らが遣って来てそれを元に計画を建てると仮定しよう。

[ + to infinitive ] We can't assume the  suspects  to  be  guilty  simply b ecause they've decided to remain silent.

We mustn't assume the suspects' guilt.

　単に黙秘を続けると決めたからと言って容疑者が有罪だと決めて掛かることは出来ません。

assume sb/sth to be 〜が〜だと決めてかかる、思い込む

I assumed (that) nobody was home because  the  car  wasn’t  in  the  driveway.

　その車が私設車道（車庫から公道までの通路）に無かったので家には誰も居ないのだと推定しました。

�A to be based on a particular idea:　ある特定の考え方に基づく

These figures assume that  inflation  will  rise  no  higher  than  2%.

　これらの図はインフレが２％を超えないだろうとの推定に基づくものです。

= These figures are based on an idea that  inflation  will  rise  no  higher  than  2%.

�B (PRETEND TO HAVE)

to pretend to have a different name or  be  someone  you  are not, or to express a feeling falsely:

　他人の名を騙る、他人の振りをする、嘘の感情を表現する

Moving to a different town, he assumed  a  false  name.

　違う街に引っ越した後で、彼は偽名を名乗った。

= After he moved to a different town, he  assumed  a  false name.

During the investigation,  two  detectives  assumed  the  identities  of  antiques  dealers.

　調査の間、２人の探偵は古物商の名を騙った。

He assumed a look of  indifference  but  I  knew  how  he  felt.

　彼は無関心の体を纏ったが私は彼の本当の気持ちを知っていた。

�C (TAKE CONTROL)

to take or begin to have responsibility  or  control,  sometimes  without  the right to do so, or to begin to have a characteristic:

　（そうする権利もないのに）責任を取ったり制御を始める、勝手に引き受ける

The new president assumes  office  at  midnight  tonight.

　新社長は今夜の深夜に事務所を動かし始めた。

The terrorists assumed control of the plane  and  forced  it  to  land in the desert.

　そのテロリスト等は勝手にその飛行機を制御し無理遣り砂漠に着陸させた。

The issue has assumed  considerable  political  proportions  (= has become a big political problem).

　その問題は可なりの政治的な比率を担ってきている（＝大きな政治問題になって来ている）

If you assume responsibility for  something,  you  become  responsible  for  it.

　もし君が何かに勝手に責任を取り始めるなら、君はそれに対して責任を持つことになる。

to believe something to be true because  it  is  very  likely,  although  you are not certain:

I presume (that) they're not coming,  since  they  haven't  replied  to the invitation.

　その招待に返答が来なかったので彼らはこないだろうと私は信じます。

You are Dr Smith, I presume?

　スミス博士でいらっしゃいますね？

"Are we walking to the hotel?"  "I  presume   not/so."

　僕たちはホテルに向かって歩いているのだろうか？　そう信じるよ／信じないよ。

[ + obj + adj ] The boat's captain is  missing,  presumed  dead (= it is believed that he is dead).

　その船の船長は居なくなっているが、死んだと信じられている。

In British law, you are presumed  innocent  until  you  are  proved guilty.

　英国法では、有罪と判明するまでは無実であると推定されます。

= In UK, people accused of a crime are  presumed  innocent  until proven guilty.

　犯罪の嫌疑を掛けられた者は有罪となるまでは無実であると推定されます。

[ + obj + to infinitive ] The universe is  presumed  to  contain  many other planets with some form of life.

　宇宙は何らかの形の生命体を持つ他の多くの惑星を抱えていると信じられています。

≒　The universe is believed to contain  many  other  planets  with some form of life.

�A  (BE RUDE)

to do something although you know that  you  do  not  have  a  right to do it:

それをする権利が無いと自分で知っているにも拘わらず行う、出娑婆る、つけ込む

presume to do 出しゃばって〜する

I wouldn't presume to  tell  you  how  to do  your  job,  but shouldn't this piece go there?

　僕はでしゃばって君の仕事の遣り方を君に言おうとは思わないが、でもこの部品はそこには填まらないんじゃないか？

How can you presume   to  criticize  me  when  you  did  the same thing yourself?

　君自身が同じ事をしたと言うのに、君はどうやって出しゃばって僕を批判出来るんだよ？

I don't wish to presume (= make  a  suggestion  although  I  have  no  right  to),  but don't you think you should apologize to her?

　差し出る（そうする権利は無いが提案する）気持は無いが、君は彼女に陳謝すべきと思わないのかい？

He presumes on her good nature  (= takes  unfair  advantage  of  it).

　彼は彼女の性格につけ込んでいる。（それを不正に利用している）

＊supposing は条件文を作るのに使われますが、仮定法現在、仮定法過去、仮定法過去完了の全ての文に利用出来ます。

＊話し手が聴き手に、ある状況を想像してくれと頼む用法です。

＊suppose,  supposing,  what  if   は全て、独立した文章 （〜と仮定してみよう／もし〜だとかるとどうなるか？）が作れます。これが単なる　if 節（従節としての扱いのみで必ず主節を別に伴う）との大きな違いですが、勿論、これらは主節に対する条件節としても機能させられます。

＊基本形は＜suppose + 現在形の文＞と＜will を 用いた文＞、の組み合わせとなります。

　土曜日にお目に掛かりに来たいと思います。その日に働く必要が無ければですが。

Supposing I don’t arrive till after midnight,  will  the  guest-house  still  be  open? (Imagine if I don’t arrive till after midnight …)

　もし真夜中過ぎまでに私が到着しなかったら、ゲストハウスはまだ開いているでしょうか？

　（もし真夜中過ぎまでに私が到着しなかったらと想像して下さい。＜その時に＞ゲストハウスはまだ開いているでしょうか？）

＊上の文の主節部分を平叙文に直すと、

If I don’t arrive till after midnight,  the  guest-house  will  be  closed.

　もし真夜中過ぎまでに私が到着しなかったら、ゲストハウスは締まっているだろう、となります。

＊仮定法現在ですが、仮定条件とその帰結の関係を厳密に論理的に組み合わせるものではなく、if  =  when  =  supposing/ suppose  の感覚で気軽に利用される表現です。

＊その意味で仮定法の用語で呼ぶのでは無く、単なる条件文と呼称するのが適切でしょう。

suppose,  supposing,   what   if  ＋ 現在形の文を使い、〜したらどうかい？、〜したらどうだろう？と相手に対して提案を述べる用法もあります。

＊＜if should 〜の可能性がある場合には＞≒＜ if もし〜なら＞、ですが、蓋然性 probabilty では無く、可能性 possibility を言いますので、一般的な if 節よりは、あり得る確率が低下するとの考えでの使用ですが、＜万一＞の訳を当てるのは行き過ぎにも見えます。

条件節を導くその他の接続詞の用法

unless

used to say what will or will not happen if  something  else  does  not  happen  or is not true; except if:

　もし何か別の事が起こらなければ或いは真実では無い場合に、何かが起こる、起こらないことを言う。

= if .....not,  except if 　もし〜で無ければ、〜ではない場合は、条件以外で、〜以外では

＊否定の意味を含む言葉です。

＊unless 節の動詞は if 節と同様に、単純現在形　present  simple　を用い、主節には shall,  should,  will,  would,  can,  could,  may  or  might を利用します。

＊unless  を疑問文に使う事は一般的では無く、通常は  if ...not  を使います。

＊注意： unless は不可能なことを示す目的では利用出来ません。即ち、未来、現在、過去に於ける実現不可性を示す if  節の用法（いわゆる仮定法）は取り得ません。この意味でunless は if に完全に置き換えられるものではありません。

＊即ち、unless  の使用は 1st-conditional の用法 （単なる仮定の話）に限定されます。

◯　If the government had not raised food  prices,  there  would  not  have been so many protests.

　もし政府が食料品価格を上げていなければそんなに多くの抗議は起こらなかっただろうに。（仮定法過去）

＊言う通りにしないと脅してやるぞ、ではなく、言う通りにしないと殺す、の意味ですので、if 節以下は動詞 kill に掛かります。

＊従節の内容が主節のメイン動詞に掛からない表現は文法的には破格なのかとも感じますが、英語にはこの手の表現が多々見られます。

＊これは日本の初学者には混乱を招くと思いますが、文意を前から把握していく native に於いては、まず、they threatened 彼らは脅したんだな、プラス、言う事をきかないと彼を殺す、と脅したんだ、の時系列的理解で進み、if 節の中身が自然とその直前の動詞（to不定詞、或いはひょっとして動名詞）に結び付くものとして理解されるのでしょうね。

正しくは、

→They threatened him saying that they  would   kill  him  if  he  didn't  do  as  they  asked.

= They threatened him saying that they  would   kill  him  unless  he  did  as  they  asked.

でしょう。

＊threaten + that 節＜〜と言って脅す＞、の用法は英語では取れず、〜と言いながら彼を脅した、と書き換える他はありません。

＊副詞節（＝従節）が主節のメイン動詞に掛からずにそれが導く不定詞を修飾する例はたびたび観察されますが、それに関しては、

＊ひょっとして起こるかもしれないが実際には起こりそうに無いと我々が考える場合、即ち仮定の意を強調して表現する formal な表現として if + were to を使います。

　もし仮に〜だとしたら、仮に〜だとすると、ひょっとして〜の場合

＊　＜be to do 〜することになっている＞、が if  節に転用され、、＜if + were to do  仮に〜することになったとすると＞、の意味になったと考えれば良いでしょう。

＊あり得なそうな条件を述べますので、主節も  will  （起きるだろう）、ではなく  would  （起こるかも）で受けますが、現在形で受ける場合もあります。

If the Prime Minister were to resign,  there  would  have  to  be  a  general election within 30 days.

　仮に首相が辞任した場合、３０日以内に総選挙が有らねばならない。

≒ If the Prime Minister should resign,  there  would  have  to  be  a  general election within 30 days.

＊更により formal なスタイルとしては、were  +  主語  +  to 不定詞の語順に倒置します。

Were we to give up the fight now, it would  mean  the  end  of  democracy in our country.

(If we gave up the fight now …)

　仮に我々がその戦いを今止めたとすると、それは我が国に於ける民主主義の終わりを意味するだろう。

Were the economy to slow down too quickly,  there  would  be  major  problems. (If the economy slowed down too quickly …)

　経済が仮に余りにも早く低速化するなら、大きな問題が起きるだろう。

＊formal でやや硬い表現ですが、会話でも普通に利用されます。if + were to 節の内容は、現実世界の蓋然性の相当程度低いことから完全に想像の域まで広範囲に利用出来る表現です。太陽がこの世から消えたなら、などの荒唐無稽なことに限定されて使われるものではありませんのでご注意を！

＊他の web 頁では、if were to 表現を仮定の probability 蓋然性には言及しない単なる仮定だと解説するものがありますが、完全な誤りですので信じないで下さいね。典拠に拠らずにいい加減なことを言うサイトがありますのでご注意下さい。if were to は、単なる仮定では無く、あり得なさそうな仮定について表現するものになります。

条件節と主節の順番

条件節を主節の前に置く事が普通ですが、その逆になる場合もあります。

If you see Dora, will you give her a  message?  (conditional  clause  first;  a  comma is normally used in writing)

　ドラに会ったらメッセージを伝えて呉れる？（条件節が最初に来る書き言葉では一般的な表現です。主節の前に通常はコンマを入れます。）

I’ll go to Bristol tomorrow if the weather  is  good.  (conditional  clause  second;  a comma is not normally used in writing)

　もし天気が良いなら僕は明日はブリストルに行くよ。（条件節が後に来ますが、書き言葉ではコンマは普通は入れません。）

条件節の動詞形態

条件節の動詞形態は、意味に応じて単純形か進行形を取ります。この進行形は未来を表す進行形では無く、〜している（していた）なら、の意味を表します。

If you owe money, you must pay it back  immediately.  (simple)

　もし君がお金を借りているなら、直ちに帰さねばならない。（動詞単純形、現在に於ける単なる仮定）

If you’re feeling hungry, we can go and  get  something  to  eat.  (continuous)

　もし君が空腹に感じているなら、我々は何か食べる物を買いに出ることが出来るよ。（動詞現在進行形、現在に於ける単なる仮定）

以下、現在または過去の現実・事実に反する仮定

If you　had been feeling hungry then,  we  could  have  gone  and  gotten  something to eat. (continuous)

　もし君がその時に空腹に感じていたのなら、我々は何か食べる物を買いに出たことが出来たのに。（動詞過去完了進行進行形、過去への仮定）

If he had time, he always called in to  see  us.  (simple)

　もし彼に時間があるなら、我々に会おうといつも電話してくれるのだが。（彼は今時間が無いので電話も掛けられない、現在のあり得ない仮定）（動詞単純形）

If they were working, we always tried not to  disturb  them.  (continuous)

　もし彼らが働いているならば、我々は彼らを邪魔しないように常に努めるのだが。（彼らが働いていないので我々は頓着しない、現在のあり得ない仮定）（動詞進行形）

If they had been working, we had always  tried  not  to  disturb  them. (continuous)

　もし彼らが働いていたならば、我々は彼らを邪魔しないように常に努めたのだが。（彼らが働いていなかったので我々は頓着しなかった、過去への仮定）（動詞進行形）

以下、現在または未来の単純な仮定

cf. If they are working, we always try  not  to  disturb  them.

　もし彼らが働いているなら、我々は彼らを邪魔しないように務めます。

If they are working tomorrow , we will always try  not  to  disturb  them.

　もし彼らが明日働いているなら、我々は彼らを邪魔しないように務めるつもりです。

　もし彼らが明日働くなら、我々は彼らを邪魔しないように務めるつもりです。

＊未来に関しては、先の事は１００％の確定は出来ないので、＜あり得ない＞確定事実は論理上存在せず、仮定法未来なる用法はありません。

＊但し、現在または未来の、起こり得る蓋然性の低い仮定については表現する方法があります。

＊以下の２つの用例が Cambridge dictionary に掲載されていました。

If you’re coming to the party,  please  let  me  know  in  advance.

　もし君がパーティに来るなら前もって僕に知らせて下さい。

＊この if 節の中の　are coming  は現在進行形即ち、実際に今パーティに来つつある、接近している、のではなく、未来表現（未来に〜するつもり、予定）と考えるしかありません。if  節の中では未来のことを語る時に現在形  present simple で表現しますので、本来なら if you come to the party とすべきですが、会話表現としては be doing を利用する表現が成立するのでしょう。現在進行形表現も時制的には現在ですので、それが未来の意味を持つとしても if 節の中では許容されるのかと思いますが、ちょっと微妙なところですね。

If he won't do it, I shall do it and then  there'll  be  trouble!

　もし彼がそれをしようとしないのなら、僕がそれを遣ってみせますが、そうなると問題が起きますね。

＊if 節の中は未来の事を想定しても未来形では無く現在形で記述します。この文章の he won't do it は、＜現在に於いて＞彼がどうしてもそうしない、との現在の時間感覚として扱っているのでしょう。

Mixed Conditionals 混合型条件文

＊過去にあり得なかったことを示す条件節に対しては、その結果、過去には〜だったろう、以外に、今頃は〜だろう、現時点より未来には〜だっただろうに、の結果が取り得ます。この場合は、条件節では if + 過去完了形、主節では  would  +  原形で文を作ります。

＊現在の推定には現在を表す時間表現を添え、未来の推定には未来を表す時間表現を加えるだけの違いです。

＊would に変えて、could,  might,  should,  must なども利用出来ます。

＊現在若しくは未来のあり得ないことを示す条件節に対しては、主節としてはあり得ない未来または現在を示す（通常の仮定法表現）、の他、あり得なかった過去、過去の経験を表す場合の２通りが取れます（時間のズレ）。後者の場合は、条件節は if + 過去形, 主節は would  (その他の法助動詞)＋完了形、となります。

＊上記２つの場合を、混合型条件文  mixed  conditional  と呼称する場合もあります。要は、条件節と主節の時制がズレている訳です。

＊ mixed conditionals の英文がスラスラと読み書き出来るようになれば、英語の時制に関しては習熟したと考えて良かろうと思います。英語話者が普通に出来ている事ですので我々にも出来ないことはありませんね。

＊non- mixed  conditionals　の文章とは、

　＜If 節が過去形＞＋＜主節が would  + 原形＞、或いは、

　＜If 節が過去完了＞＋＜主節が would  +　完了形＞

　　　の組み合わせ（過去同士、或いは完了同士の組み合わせ）になります

＊これに対し、mixed  conditionals　の文章とは、

　＜If 節が過去形＞＋＜主節が  would  + 完了形＞、或いは、

　＜If 節が過去完了＞＋＜主節が  would  +　原形＞

　　　の組み合わせ（過去と完了形）に過ぎません。

＊過去は現在の意味に、過去完了は過去の意味にズラして把握するだけで慌てる必要もありません。条件節並びに主節の、動詞の時制にではなく文意が意味する時制に対して時間表現を加えます。

英語の未来表現について

＊英語の動詞時制にはフランス語などと異なり未来形の格変化がありません。 ＜be   +  doing  +  未来時間表現＞或いは　＜will  do＞、＜be  going  to  do＞ でその先に行う事を示します。単純に未来に起きる事を述べる動詞表現が無く、今〜しているところだ、の現在進行形との区別、 また will  を用いての〜してみせる、の意志表現と  be  going  to  do の他律的にそうなることになっている、との区別、が曖昧であり、この点に於いて明確性の低い未分化な言語と言えますね。 youtube  上では  be  going   to  do  と  will  do のニュアンスの違いなどについて屡々解説が為されていますが、慣用表現を用いてニュアンスを理解する他は無く、 non-native  には理屈として分かり難いところがあります。

＊時制に関しては実は日本語にも未来形の活用は無く、現在形＋未来の時間表現で未来形を構成します。＜僕は明日はパンを食べます＞が正式な未来形で３り、＜僕は明日はパンを食べるだろう＞の表現は厳密には未来形ではなく、推量或いは意志の混じった表現になります。

＊高校で漢文を習った方なら薄々お気付きかと思いますが、中国語動詞には時制の活用が無く、付帯的表現を交えて時制を表現します。

＊日本語ではあり得る条件を述べる時にも、もし宝くじが当たるなら、と同じく、もし宝くじが当たったら、と過去表現が普通に利用されます。あり得なかった過去の条件については、あの時〜だったなら、〜していたなら、などの過去表現になりますね。即ち、現在未来或いは過去のあり得ない仮定に関しては全て過去表現で表します。過去形と過去完了形の区別が無い日本語固有の事象とも言えますね。

仮定・条件を表す表現の文法的理解�@

条件文 conditionals とは

＊条件文とは想像上の或いは不確定な状況、並びにそれらの状況からのあり得る結果について考える文章になります。最も普通の条件文は if を使用するものです。

＊条件文は、条件節  conditional  clause  と その条件の下での、あり得る結果を述べる主節  main  clause  とから構成されます。

＊条件節を導く他の接続詞にはunless,  should,   as  long  as などがあります。これら以外にも、意味的に条件節を構成する用語があります。

＊仮定法現在（現在若しくは未来のあり得そうなことを述べる）、仮定法過去（現在若しくは未来の起こり得なさそうなことを述べる）、仮定法過去完了（過去の起こらなかったことがもしも起こっていたらと仮定する）の３通りがありますが、仮定法現在の内、当然常に起こり得る事象の文を zero- conditional と呼称し、他のものを順に、first- conditional,  second-conditional,  third-conditional と呼称するのが現在の英文法の一般的な姿になっています。

＊ゼロ条件文では、主節にはwill などを使わず、現在形の動詞を用います（常態的真理を表します）。既に自明の真実を述べる訳ですからwill などを使う必要も無いと言うわけですね。これに対し、first-conditional では常態的真理ではない個別の事例について語り、主節には　will などを用います。

仮定法現在 = zero conditional + 1st conditional

zero conditional: 　if  =  when  と考えて理解して下さい。もしも〜、の仮定の意味はほとんどありません。判り切った事実、真実、習慣表現に利用します。

If the wind blows, the trees move. 風が吹けば木は揺れる。

= When the wind blows, the trees move.  常態的真理ですので主節に will は用いず動詞現在形を用います。

If the weather is fine, we eat outside on the  terrace.  (Every  time this happens, this is what we do.)

　もし天気が良ければ、我々は外のテラスで食べることにしている。いつもの習慣で決まり切っている常態ゆえ動詞現在形を用います。

= When the weather is fine, we eat outside on the  terrace.

If the kids are enjoying themselves, we just let  them  go  on  playing till they’re ready for bed. (Every time this happens, this is what we do.)

　子供達が楽しんでいる時は、寝る準備が出来るまで子供達を遊ばせておくだけよ。（毎度の習慣）

= When the kids are enjoying themselves,  we  just  let  them  go on playing till they’re ready for bed.

If the economy is growing by 6%, then it is  growing  too  fast.  (If it is true that the economy is growing by 6%, then it is true that it is growing  too fast.)

時制とその組み合わせ表現

＊条件節の動詞の時制は、その想像上のものがあり得そうなのか不可能なのかの＜話し手の視点＞を反映します。

＊この先実現可能なことを示す場合は、未来のことを想定する形になりますが、条件節の中では未来のことであっても現在形を使用することにご注意下さい。

＊まぁ、あり得る未来を語るのに現在形を用い、あり得ない未来 （または現在） を語るのに過去形を用い、あり得なかった過去を語るのに過去完了形を使う、との時制が１つずつ過去側にズレる訳です。

＊逆に考えれば、条件節の動詞が現在形 （現在進行形）であればこれから起こる事を、過去形（過去進行形）ならこれから（或いは今）起こり得ない事を（例外あり）、過去完了形であれば、過去に起こらなかったことを示しますので、瞬時に判断して下さい。

　これらの様に書き換えると我々日本人には理解し易いでしょう。またこれらの文の方が論理的に正しいと感じるのですが、なぜ native は最初の文章を書くのか塾長には不明ですが、only  〜だけ、との気持を文の論理を無視しても先に述べてしまいたいからかも知れませんね。

＊実は日本語の文章でも、本来掛かるべき語句から離れて、＜只＞などの言葉を先に述べてしまうところはあり、発想は似ているのかもしれません。論理構造としては正確さを欠きますが、話し手が何を言いたいのかは理解はできます。

＊ only,  just  が動詞に掛かる文例で意味が取れないときは、 only,  just  を後ろに適宜移動して他の句や節に掛けて考えると理解が出来る場合があります。
