以下、formal な表現：

　＊formal な書き言葉として利用出来る表現です。that は前文内容を差します。

He forgets most things, but having said that, he always remembers my  birthday.

　彼は殆ど全てを忘れてしまう。そうは言うものの、私の誕生日は常に覚えている。

＊この現在形の表現は、常態、習慣を示す用法です。

cf. be that as it may

Building a new children's home will cost a lot of money but, be that as it  may,  there is an urgent need for thefacility.

　子供の家を新たに建設することは多額の費用が掛かる。そうだとしてもその施設は緊急に必要なのだ。

= Building a new children's home will cost a lot of money but, even if  （=     granting that） it may be true, there isan urgent need for the facility.

though

= although

He blurted everything out about the baby, though we'd agreed to keep it a   secret for a while.

　当面秘密にしておこうと同意していたにも拘わらず、彼は赤ん坊のことを丸ごと口を滑らした。

＊過去に対して更に過去の出来事を表す為に過去完了形を用いています。

I play the piano tolerably well, though I have no particular talent for it.

　私はピアノはそこそこ上手く弾く。特別な才能は無いにも拘わらず。

tolerably = fairly well,  moderately good 　通用する程度に良い、そこそこ良い

＊原義：　我慢できる程度、遣り方で → 悪くない、そこそこ〜だ

even though は although, though と同じ様な用法ですが even though の方が、より強い対比を表現します。

She hasn't called, even  though she said she would.

　掛けるね、と言ったにも拘わらず彼女は電話を寄越さないままだ。

Even though she hasn't really got the time, she still offered to help.

　本当に時間が無いにも拘わらず、彼女は助けを申し出た。

They're coming next week, though I don't know which day.

　来週彼らは遣ってくるが、でも何曜日かは知らない。

I enjoyed her new book though it's not quite as good as her last one.

　彼女の新作本を楽しんだが、前作ほどの出来ではない。

= I enjoyed her new book, but it's not quite as good as her last one.

cf. not quite as good as 〜ほど良くはない

≒ not so good as

　　not quite as simple as 〜ほど単純ではない

　　not quite as stupid as　〜ほどばかではない

　前作ほどの出来では無かったにも拘わらず彼女の本を楽しんだ、ことを明確に表現するには、

Although her new book is not quite as good as her last one, I still enjoyed it

　とでも表記すべきでしょう。

Initial reports say that seven people have died, though this has not yet  been   confirmed.

= Initial reports say that seven people have died, but this has not yet  been   confirmed.

　当初は７名が死亡したと報告されているが、これはまだ確かめられていない。

＊この文の though を〜にも拘わらずと訳すと妙な文章になってしまいます。

�B despite this:　副詞用法　　でも〜だ、〜だけど

We went to high school together. I haven't seen her for years, though.

　僕たちは一緒に高校に通う仲だった。彼女にはもう何年も会っていないけど。

＊though は althought に比べると口語的ですが、文末に though を付けるのは極めて会話的で、formal な文章では避けるべき表現です。

＊although を文末に付ける用法はありません。

as though/  as if

・in a way that seems to  show something

・used to describe how a  situation seems to be

　状況がどの様に見えるのかを描写する表現、〜の様に見える、

＊as if 以下は本来は仮定法で表記すべきとの主張もありますが、意味的には　like 〜の様だ、ですので特に口語では仮定法を使わないのが一般的です。起こりそうに無い、飽くまで仮定の話だと主張したいなら仮定法を用いれば良いだけです（仮定法とは元々起こり得ないことを仮定して表現する用法です）。

＊as though の場合は、if を使わず、それゆえ仮定法の記述は元々不要です。迷うなら as if  は止めて as though を使うと良いでしょう。

She looked as if she'd had  some bad news.

これは

仮定法の記述である場合

→ She looked like she had  some bad news.

彼女は何か悪い報せでも抱えているかの様に見えた。

仮定法の記述では無い場合

→ She looked like she'd had  some bad news.

彼女は何か悪い報せでもずっと抱えて来たかの様に見えた。

の２つの解釈に分かれます。

＊＜look like ＋節＞は文法的に誤りですが、一般に使われる口語です。但し、堅い文章では使わない方が良いでしょう。look as though,  look as  if を使って下さい。

They stared at me as if I  was  crazy.

　彼らは恰も私が狂っているかの様な目で見た。

　仮定法を使うなら

→They stared at me as if I  were crazy.

I felt as though I'd been　 lying  in the sun for hours.

　私は自分が陽光の中で何時間も寝ていたかの様に感じた。

= I felt like  I 'd been lying in  the sun for hours.

She acted as though she had never seen me before, when I'd just met her  at  lunch.

　昼食の時に彼女にばったり会ったが、彼女は丸で私に以前一度も会ったことが無いみたいに振る舞った。

You look as though you've  been running a marathon!

　君はまるでずっとマラソンを走って来てるみたいに見えるよ。

= You look like you've  been　 running a marathon!

cf. as if!

informal

・said to show that you do not believe something is possible

　有るわけ無かろうと信じていることを示す

"Did you get a pay rise?" "As if!"

　給料上げて貰ったかい？　あるわけないだろ！

cf. make as if to do sth

If you make as if to do something, you seem as if that is what you are  going  to  do

まるで〜しようとするかに（他人から）見える

He made as if to speak.

　彼は話そうとしているかに見えた。

= He seemed to start 　speaking.
