2021年9月25日 皆様、KVC Tokyo 英語塾 塾長 藤野 健です。 時間を表す表現について扱います。時間に関する多様な表現がすぐに脳裏に思い浮かぶまでになると、英語の表現の幅が格段に豊かになると思います。時間の流れの中で生きている我々には、時間に関する様々な表現は寧ろ身に付けるべき必須の表現であるとも言える筈です。現在、過去、未来、期間、特定の時まで、特定の時、time を使った表現などに分け、解説して行きましょう。過去に纏わる表現の第27回目です。 英国ケンブリッジ英語辞典の用例を主に参考に解説を加えて行きます。https://dictionary.cambridge.org/ |

Related: Accommodated; accommodating.1つのものを別のものにピッタリと合わせる、適合させるの意味のラテン語動詞 accomodare の過去分詞 accomodatus 〜に適した、適当な、に1530年代に由来。ad +commodare = to + make fit 適切な、適合する、便利な、満足行く、16世紀からは、適合させる、欲しい物をヒトに備える、特に適する部屋と快適性を備える、の意。*accomodate = (ホテルが)部屋を提供する、他人の希望に合わせる、何かをあるものに上手く適合させる、の意味ですね。recently・ not long ago, or at a time that started not long ago:遠い昔ではない、最近に=lately, latterly これらと同じく完了形と共に用いるのが一般的です。*以下の様な、現在形との組み合わせも可能です。Recently, an increasing number of students are going abroad to study English.これはこの文の主節がan increasing number of students has gone abroad to study English の完了を意味を含んでいるからと解釈出来ます。文法的にうるさいことを言えば、これは破格であり、現在完了形を使えと指図されるかも知れませんが。*現在完了形は時制的には現在ゆえ、過去から今に至るまで或る事象が継続していることを示す現在進行形に recently 使用しても本質的に誤りとは言い切れないでしょう。Have you seen any good films recently?最近に何か良い映画を見たかい?Until very recently he worked as a teacher and he still shudders at the memories.つい最近まで彼は教師として働いており、まだその記憶におののいている。Recently, I've been feeling a bit depressed.近頃は少し落ち込んでるんだ。After languishing in obscurity for many years, her early novels have recently been rediscovered.何年もの間、無名の内に落ちぶれていた後に、彼女の初期の小説は近頃再発見されました。Until recently the civil war had been largely unreported in the press.最近に至るまで、南北戦争は出版業界では大きくは報じられて来なかった。The government recently nationalized the railways.政府は最近その鉄道を国有化した。She has recently notched up her third win at a major tennis tournament.彼女は最近メジャーなテニス大会で3度目の優勝を収めました。cf. notch up (a victory title)informal得勝利・得点・地位などを得る,収めるShe has recently suffered a bereavement.彼女は最近肉親との死別を味わいました。We just recently moved to Texas.私たちはテキサスについ最近引っ越しました。More recently however, increasing attention has been paid to the psychological aspects of s pace.しかしながらつい最近では、空間の心理学的な側面に対してますます注意が払われて来ています。* increasing attention <増大しつつある注意>→ <注意が増大しつつある>、と、形容詞を副詞に脳内変換します。→ attention has been paid increasingly to... 〜にますます注意が払われて*<増大しつつある、減少しつつある>などの、動名詞が名詞を修飾する場合には、<ますます〜だ>とすぐに訳して下さい。cf. pay attention to= to watch, listen to, or think about something carefully:〜に注意を払うYou weren't paying attention to what I was saying.君は私が言っていることに中止を払ってなかった。*この pay は give or do somethin の意味ですが、他に以下の様な用例があります:The commander paid tribute to the courage of his troops.その司令官は彼の部隊の勇気に敬意を払った。It's always nice to be paid a compliment.お世辞を言われる(褒められる)のはいつも気分がいい。A crowd of mourners gathered to pay their respects to the dead man.弔問の群衆が死者に敬意を表する為に集まった。cf. pay close attention to 〜に細心の注意を払うpay little attention to 〜に殆ど注意を払わないpay no attention to 〜を気にとめない、そっちのけにする、取り合わない |
