accommodate (v.)

1530s, "fit one thing to another," from  Latin  accomodatus  "suitable,  fit, appropriate to," past participle of accomodare "make fit, make fit for,  adapt, fit one thing to another," from  ad  "to" (see  ad-)  +  commodare "make fit," from commodus ""proper, fit, appropriate, convenient,  satisfactory," from com-, here as an  intensive  prefix  (see com-),  +  modus  "measure, manner" (from PIE root *med- "take appropriatemeasures"). From late 16c. as "make  suitable," also  "furnish  (someone)  with  what  is  wanted," especially "furnish with suitable room andcomfort" (1712).  Related: Accommodated; accommodating.

　１つのものを別のものにピッタリと合わせる、適合させるの意味のラテン語動詞 accomodare の過去分詞 accomodatus 〜に適した、適当な、に１５３０年代に由来。ad +commodare = to + make fit 適切な、適合する、便利な、満足行く、１６世紀からは、適合させる、欲しい物をヒトに備える、特に適する部屋と快適性を備える、の意。

＊accomodate =  （ホテルが）部屋を提供する、他人の希望に合わせる、何かをあるものに上手く適合させる、の意味ですね。

・ not long ago, or at a time that  started  not  long  ago:

　遠い昔ではない、最近に

=lately, latterly　これらと同じく完了形と共に用いるのが一般的です。

＊以下の様な、現在形との組み合わせも可能です。

Recently, an increasing number of students are going abroad to study English.

　これはこの文の主節が

an increasing number of students has gone abroad to study English 　の完了を意味を含んでいるからと解釈出来ます。

　文法的にうるさいことを言えば、これは破格であり、現在完了形を使えと指図されるかも知れませんが。

＊現在完了形は時制的には現在ゆえ、過去から今に至るまで或る事象が継続していることを示す現在進行形に recently 使用しても本質的に誤りとは言い切れないでしょう。

　最近に何か良い映画を見たかい？

Until very recently he worked as a  teacher  and  he  still  shudders  at  the  memories.

　つい最近まで彼は教師として働いており、まだその記憶におののいている。

More recently however, increasing attention  has  been  paid  to  the  psychological  aspects  of s pace.

　しかしながらつい最近では、空間の心理学的な側面に対してますます注意が払われて来ています。

*  increasing attention  ＜増大しつつある注意＞→　＜注意が増大しつつある＞、と、形容詞を副詞に脳内変換します。

→　attention has been paid increasingly  to... 〜にますます注意が払われて

＊＜増大しつつある、減少しつつある＞などの、動名詞が名詞を修飾する場合には、＜ますます〜だ＞とすぐに訳して下さい。

＊この pay は give or do somethin の意味ですが、他に以下の様な用例があります：

　お世辞を言われる（褒められる）のはいつも気分がいい。
