used to emphasize that something is not  large,  important,  or  effective  when compared to something else:

I wasn't complaining, I merely said that  I  was  tired.

　僕は文句を言ってなかった。単に退屈だと言っただけだよ。

These columns have no function and are  merely  decorative.

＊形容詞  mere  の最上級の形を取りますが、意味を強調する用法です。ちなみに mere の比較級はありません！

The merest mention of seafood makes her  feel  sick.

　シーフードについて僅か口にしただけで彼女は気分が悪くなった。

I'm sorry but there's no way we can  help you.

　悪いけど我々に君を助けられる策は全然無いね。

No way will she agree to you leaving early.

　君が早立ちするのを彼女は同意する訳がない。

= Thre is no way she will agree to you  leaving  early.

＊she agree to your leaving early の  your を  you  にしたものですが、これは直接目的語の扱いです。これを通じて擬似的な SVOC の構文に移行しますが、この様な事例は珍しくはありません。

�A used to say no in a forceful way:

　no の強めの表現、絶対イヤだね

"Come on, let me borrow your bike." "No way!"

　おい、バイクを貸してくれよ。絶対御免だ。

�B used to express surprise:

　驚きを表す、あり得ない、嘘だろう？

When someone tells him something interesting,  he  says,  "No way!"  as  if he is a teen.

　誰かが彼に何か面白い事を言うと、彼はティーンみたいに、うっそぉうと言うんだ。

"I'm glad to tell you you've been upgraded."  "No  way!"  I say.

　嬉しいことに君は昇格したよ。　嘘だろう？と私は言う。
