Confident

1. （人が）自信に満ちている

If a person or their manner is confident, they  feel  sure about their own abilities, qualities, or ideas.

　人またはその態度が自信に満ちている場合、自身の能力、資質、または考えについて確信を持っていることを意味する。

= self-assured, positive, assured, bold 　自信に満ちた、積極的な、確信した、大胆な

And he is feeling more confident than he has  for  many months.

She is a confident woman who is certain of  her  views.

2. （何かが）真実であると確信している、自信を持っている

Reliable

1. 人や物が信頼出来る、確実だ

can be trusted to work well or to behave in the  way  that  you want them to.

　期待通りに機能したり、望むように振る舞ったりすると確信できる

= dependable, trustworthy, honest, responsible

I will warrant him an honest and reliable fellow.

　彼を誠実で信頼できる人物だと保証する。

This willingness to be the reliable and dependable  friend  fulfils  a need in you to be needed.

They could choose to study a course with a more  reliable  financial  payoff.

Information that is reliable or that is from a  reliable  source  is very likely to be correct.

And nobody has a reliable tally of the  independent  shops  that have disappeared.

Scared

＊叙述用法しか無く、また人の属性、即ち人格を形容する語ではありませんが、本コラムで採り上げます。

1.怖がっている、怯えている

If you are scared of someone or something, you  are  frightened  of them.

　誰かや何かを怖がっている場合、その対象に怯えている状態を指す。

= afraid, alarmed, frightened, terrified  afraid,  alarmed, frightened, terrified  

I'm certainly not scared of him. [+ of]

　私は彼を怖がっているわけじゃない。

I was too scared to move.

I wonder who is scared to lose me.

He was bullying her and she was scared  of  him.

They feel the pressure and are scared of  having  neither  parent around.

So the positive result left the shocked call  centre  worker  feeling dirty and scared.

2. 先のことを怖れる

nervous and worried because you think that  something  might happen.

Conscientious

1.良心的な、良心に従う、誠実な

・feeling a moral responsibility to do your  work  carefully  and to be fair to others:

　自分の仕事を注意深く行い、他者に公平であるべきという道義的責任を感じる

＊自分の内なる善悪の判断に従って行動する。道徳的に正しいことを重視し、誠実で公正である。

The majority of landlords are conscientious.

　大多数の家主は良心的な人々です。

Perhaps explicit legal protection for  conscientious  objection  in healthcare is the solution.

　医療現場における良心的拒否権に対する明示的な法的保護こそが解決策かもしれません。

Another explanation may be that the jury was  being  conscientious.

　別の説明としては、陪審員が良心的に行動していた可能性が考えられます。

He was an extremely able, conscientious  and  responsible  law officer.

2. 細心の注意を払う、真摯な、誠実な

1. 注意深い

giving serious attention to what you are doing, inorder  to  avoid  harm,  damage, or mistakes.

Be very careful with this stuff, it can be dangerousif it  isn't  handled  properly.

　この物質は扱いを誤ると危険なので、十分注意してください。

He was careful to keep out of sight.
